Dog Friendly Holidays
In May 2009 my husband Jason & I purchased Blaen Nant Gwyn, a traditional Welsh long house with a large barn and incredible views in stunning rural Carmarthenshire. The property is 1000 feet up on Llanllwni Mountain, on the edge of Brechfa Forest and was chosen specifically for its location – close to the world renowned mountain bike trails based at Brechfa. With Jason a keen mountain biker and my love of cooking our plan was to build a business which would allow us to combine our 2 passions.
Within 1 year we had divided the barn into 2 and completed enough work to open 1 side as a self-catering holiday let - Bay Tree Barn. Brechfa Forest Barns was born. We offer totally dog-friendly self-catering holidays with optional catering in beautiful accommodation in an absolutely stunning location. We also offer mountain bike guiding and bike hire.
By the Summer of 2011 Jason had qualified as a MIAS Mountain Bike Guide and so we moved onto Plan B of our venture - to offer something unique to the UK but which is very popular elsewhere in Europe - fully catered, guided mountain biking breaks along the lines of a ski-chalet type holiday including awesome riding, free guiding, great accommodation and fabulous food. Guests would be offered weekends, mid-week breaks or full weeks plus “secret” trail guiding too - a chance to ride “off piste” with “from the door” guiding allowing guests to benefit from Jason’s knowledge of some the best local natural single track around. This then left the fabulous local trails at Brechfa for guests to tackle on their non-guided days.
We completed our second accommodation, The Hay Barn by August 2011 and MudTrek Mountain Bike Breaks became a reality. Finally, in Sept 2014 The Old Bike Shed, our 3rd property was finished. Both businesses have proved an overwhelming success and we now run them alongside one another. The 2 businesses have achieved (to date) over 500 x 5 star TripAdvisor & Facebook reviews.
We offer optional fabulous home-cooked meals plus our amazing BBQ Hut is available for guests to rent exclusively for an evening (complete with all the food!) - perfect for a romantic treat for 2 or a party for up to 12.
We are a really friendly couple and are delighted to share this stunning slice of country life with our guests & their dogs, many whom have become our friends and return often. We have 3 lovely, rather naughty beagles, Woody, Cookie & Oscar who are mainly interested in food!
