Hi
I have a shar pei x Akita who is 10 months old. Overall he is pretty well trained and responsive to commands.
The challenge with him is other dogs when walking on the lead. He becomes fixated on staring them out and when close enough will pull hard and jump up at the dog. Sometimes this seems aggressive (with a growl) and sometimes it looks very playful.
We have tried stopping to allow the other dog and owner to pass us, with the distraction of a tasty treat!
We have tried continuing walking with the command of ‘stay down’ (which works in the house)
He is spending time at a ‘doggy day care’ to help his socialisation and they haven’t reported any aggression with other dogs which is great.
Whilst he is still a puppy it’s frustrating seeing how well behaved he is at home vs out and about and it’s becoming a little embarrassing apologising to folk all the time; and naturally we don’t want anyone to feel scared or uncomfortable!
Any pointers or suggestions will be appreciated Many thanks
