This is my first post so sorry if some of these questions have been asked before;

I have an 11 month old lurcher (Gypsy) 23" a Bedlington x Greyhound, Whippet x Greyhound cross which I have had since a puppy.

Until now I have spent most of my time giving him basic training him e.g sit recall, retrieve and stay (mind you he never seems to understand stay as he like to keep me in sight!).

I have also taken him out ratting a couple of times with my terriers and he soon got the hang of that!

I am lucky in so far that, I am part of a shooting syndicate and have access plenty of land with rabbits however neither the dog or me have ever been lamping before, can any one give advice on how to start the dog lamping for rabits.

Also we have a fair few foxes so it is likely at some time he will meet one, if Gypsy decides to go after one of these is he big enough to tackle it single handed?

One more question can you work lurchers and terriers together when lamping?

Thanks

for me the first steps would be to get the dog to know what the lamp is and that it pointing at somthing you want the dog to chase

i used to go on my back garden with a teddy for weeks b4 my dog went out

try that 4 a while .

if i was you i wouldent let that sort of dog fight a fox if you want somthing to kill a fox get a bullx ...

lurchers and terriers lamping ? that would be a no go for me..

if you want help or have more questions add me on msn pal

Excuse my ignorance, but why ?

y ? for 1 a terrier aint fast enuff to run side a lurcher

2 if you ever did take terriers and luchers out and thay crossed each others paths then your dogs are gonna have fun... AT THE VETS

and 3 a terrier aint a lamping dog is it now ...well course you might think it is..

ok mybe your terrier can bush out a rabbit that the lurcher has just chased into cover wich is what ther for ...but what happend when your terrier barks on a chase.?? all the lil bunnies will go bye bye ...

just my opinion :p

I think I read that wrongly as I thought you meant you wouldnt lamp a lurcher OR a terrier as opposed to them being both together !!! :b
