We went to Ockendon trialling track on Sunday with our non-ped, but due to the track being frozen in places, we came away after an hour..

We noticed several ped whippets also waiting, I wondered if they were local, and if they got to trial later in the day when it warmed up.

I am a local whippet owner ( East London ) I wasn't there on the day you mentioned but I have used the track on occasion to get my puppy used to bends. I will certainly be going there in Feb in order to get him sharpened up for the start of the race season at my whippet club which begins in March. ' Frozen track ' ? I didn't know that sand could freeze. Don't those greyhounds look huge. When I was a kid I use to work in a greyhound kennels in Potters Bar. Okendon reminds me of it very much. So I like to walk my dog through where the kennels are, up to the field and look at some of the dogs. Yeh Okendon, you can get bacon sandwiches and that bloke from the Greyhound and Whippet shop has a stall there. And as it's Essex, you can sometimes get some cockles and whelks. Chas and Dave provide the music, Mike Ried tells the jokes and there's a bouncy castle for the ' saucpan lids '. Behave yourselves it's a family do.
